BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – May 14, 2012 – The Telly Awards, the premier award honoring local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, video and film production and online commercials, has named Brogan & Partners a multiple winner of its 33rd annual awards. Brogan & Partners is honored to have its projects selected among nearly 11,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries. The announcement was made by Brogan Managing Partner, Ellyn Davidson.
Two Brogan & Partners projects – “STEM Interview” on behalf of the National Defense Education Partnership and “Secondhand Rose, Secondhand Smoke” on behalf of the Michigan Department of Community Health – were honored, the latter in two separate categories. “STEM Interview” received a Silver Telly, the Awards highest honor, in the not-for-profit category. “Secondhand Rose, Secondhand Smoke” was awarded both a Silver Telly in the public service category and a Bronze Telly in the not-for-profit category.
“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, executive director of the Telly Awards. “Brogan & Partners’ accomplishments illustrate their creativity, skill and dedication to their craft, and serve as a testament to great film and video production.”
“These honors we share with our clients, the National Defense Education Partnership and the Michigan Department of Community Health,” said Davidson. “Great clients make it possible to produce great creative work, and our amazing production partners, Radish Creative Group and Cutters, helped bring these award-winning ideas to life.”
About The Telly Awards
The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.
A prestigious judging panel of more than 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10 percent of entries are chosen as winners of the Silver Telly, the Award’s highest honor. Approximately 25 percent of entries are chosen as winners of the Bronze Telly. Deidre Bounds elected managing partner of Brogan & Partners Convergence Marketing.
Next generation of leadership steps up at 25-year-old agency
[Birmingham, MI] - Deidre Bounds, one of eleven partners at Brogan & Partners Convergence Marketing, has been named managing partner of the $80 million agency, it was announced today. Bounds, who started working for the agency in 1992, will take over the day-to-day implementation of the agency's business strategy this month.
Marcie Brogan, founder and CEO of the agency, along with board members and senior partners Maria Marcotte, CFO, and Bonnie Folster, executive creative director, chose Bounds to take the helm earlier this year.
"This agency was started with the vision of opening up leadership opportunities in the advertising business to more people - women and minorities in particular," said Brogan. "Naming Deidre as the leader of the next generation of partners is a culmination of this vision."
Having started as a copywriter in the advertising business in the late '60s, Marcie Brogan has experienced firsthand the proverbial glass ceiling and white male dominated environments similar to that portrayed on AMC's hit series, Mad Men. That experience led her to create a business that included and fit the lives of women when she started Brogan & Partners in 1984.
From the beginning the agency offered flextime, weekly manicures, paid maternity and paternity leaves, and welcomed kids and pets into the office. Today, Brogan & Partners has a well-developed practice in minority marketing and media, as well as award-winning creativity, and a diverse, flexible and high-morale workplace.
"I am excited and honored to be managing partner," said Bounds. "Marcie's a hard act to follow, but taking a turn wearing most of the hats within the agency has prepared me well, and I am proud to have the support of my other partners."
Bounds started as an Administrative Assistant to Brogan in 1992, and soon moved to Account Coordinator, and then to Account Director, leading marketing efforts for some of the agency's largest clients. In the past decade Bounds has supervised several of the agency's departments like the public relations team, the media buying team, the interactive team, and has been an integral part of growing new business and the agency's pro bono work. In 2005 Bounds had an 18-month stint as managing partner to prepare for her new role.
An enthusiastic volunteer, Bounds, is a graduate of Leadership Detroit and serves on the executive board of ArtServe Michigan, where she co-chairs the Governor's Awards and serves on the communications committee. She is a mentor to homeless women at Peggy's Place, and has been on boards of the Detroit Children's Museum and the Sphinx Organization, and co-led the Detroit Image Team--a group of volunteer marketing professionals under former Mayor Dennis Archer. Bounds lives in Southfield with her husband and two children.
Founder and former managing partner Marcie Brogan continues to chair the agency board of directors and will be active on strategic planning for agency clients and on community and industry boards.

Local survivor still battling cancer.
Huntington Woods woman in unique position to help others with cancer
[Birmingham, MI] - Ellyn Davidson of Huntington Woods has always been very active. She has been a room mom at her kids' school, and has an endless calendar of regular play dates. She's a partner at Brogan & Partner's Convergence Marketing in Birmingham where she's been developing marketing strategy for healthcare and social marketing clients for 15 years. She skis, likes to hike, and is an avid photographer.
But in August of 2007, Ellyn became an active member of a group that she never wanted to join when she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at age 36. Her activity list changed suddenly and drastically for the next year as she underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and reconstructive surgery. Besides actively battling cancer, she continued with activities that revolved around her family life with husband Jon, daughter Lacey (8), and sons Brett (6), and Seth (2).
Today Ellyn's still battling cancer as an active player on the Survivor team. Back to work at Brogan and feeling great, Ellyn recently found that her breast cancer world and her professional world were colliding in a very meaningful way. Ellyn led the team at Brogan & Partners and its sister company Ignite Social Media, to launch The Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer Tax Check-Off Initiative for her long-time client, The Michigan Department of Community Health. To generate enthusiasm about the Initiative and spread the word, Ellyn's team developed a social media campaign at http://michigancancer.org/taxcheck-off.cfm, where visitors can sign a pledge, grab a badge for a facebook/myspace page, website or blog and share with friends, and become a fan on facebook.
The program adds the two new funds to the Voluntary Contributions Schedule (Form 4642) associated with 2008 State of Michigan tax forms. Dollars collected for the Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment Initiative, called Amanda's Fund, go directly to the Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP), which provides free breast and cervical cancer screening services to low-income women in our state. Donations designated for the Prostate Cancer Research Fund will be used to support prostate cancer research in Michigan.
"I consider myself incredibly lucky that I found my cancer early and had access to the best treatment," Davidson said. "I want to do everything I can to make sure that all women have access to early detection and excellent care."
Ellyn's piled her plate full with activities again, as a local outreach coordinator for Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE), and fundraising with her breast cancer 3-Day Team called Ta Ta Breast Cancer, which raised over $86,000 last year. She's also on the host committee for Camp Kids All Together and the Bear Hug Foundation's Hibernation Celebration.
Yep, life's back to normal for Ellyn Davidson.
Brogan & Partners get clues to solve mystery of company outing.
[Birmingham, MI] - Employees of Brogan & Partners Convergence Marketing are busy racking their brains, trying to figure out clues that will tell them where their quarterly Mystery trip will be. Last week, clues on where they are going began circling the office email, with a new one coming each day.
"We've been doing Mystery Trips for 20 years," said Brogan Managing Partner Scott Werner. "We have four per year - three half-day local outings and one four-day, out-of-state or country trip, all designed to create a bonding experience for our employees." According to Werner, employees in both the Michigan office and in the North Carolina office participate in separate local Mystery Trips, while both offices combine for the four-day trip.
Turns out this Mystery Trip is to the Detroit Opera House to see "Wicked," the untold story of the witches of "Oz," directed by 2003 and 2004 Tony award-winning director, Joe Mantello.

Ad agency recruits client to help drive out the devil.
[Birmingham, MI] - Employees at Brogan & Partners Convergence Marketing issued a call to a community-minded client to join them in support of the City of Detroit’s 2008 Angels’ Night Volunteer Campaign - and HoneyBaked Ham answered.
The company, headquartered in Troy, will provide food for 700 volunteers at seven different locations in Detroit. HoneyBaked will donate 14 large hams with bread and condiments as part of their “HoneyBaked to the Rescue” effort, and provide 14,000 coupons for $10 off a holiday ham to Angels’ Night workers.
“When Brogan called us to help with Angels’ Night, we were happy to step up to do our part by providing food for the volunteers who work to keep the city safe,” said Wendy Becker, VP of Marketing for HoneyBaked.
About 30 HoneyBaked and Brogan volunteers will join nearly 50,000 other area volunteers to help patrol city streets in the metro Detroit area, discouraging vandalism and arson, and ensuring safety on the night before Halloween and Halloween night.
Brogan also asked the Adcraft Club and the Detroit Regional Chamber to help promote awareness of the campaign; both organizations sent out e-blasts about the importance of the Angels’ Night effort to their members.

This year, dozens of sales and editorial media enjoyed a menu of Witch's Brew, Monster Mash, Dead Man’s Delight and Werewolf Eyes along with the entire staff at Brogan & Partners. Activities like Karaoke, Guitar Hero Games and a Psychic will add an element of fun to the event.
"We appreciate how hard our media representatives work year round in helping us negotiate effective media buys for our clients," said Misi McClelland, Partner and Media Director at Brogan & Partners. “Our Annual Media Treats Party is our way of saying thanks.”
