How the ABCs of PR Helped Grow EHP
Client: Environmental Health Perspectives
Project: Use PR to grow credibility of a science
journal
Date: July 2002 through December 2005
Challenge:
The science journal EHP (Environmental Health Perspectives)
is produced by one of the National Institutes of Health.
Despite excellent content, the journal was rarely cited
in mainstream news publications. Public prominence gained
the attention of researchers, increasing the likelihood
that they will cite EHP research in their own papers.
We needed to introduce a PR program that drives awareness.
Objectives:
Increase awareness of groundbreaking EHP readership as
a way to increase the journal's "Impact Factor"
the key measure of influence in scientific publication.
Results:
When Brogan & Partners started PR work for EHP, the
journal received an average of 0.73 mentions in the media
per day. Within two years, we had increased that level
to 3.10 mentions in the media per day. One year after
that, we'd increased the number of PR mentions to 6.46
per day. Not coincidentally, the impact factor also rose
dramatically, and EHP is now the number one environmental
science journal in the world.
